When Dave is there, nudging him around, deciding things for him, leading him while he followed, John feels more protected than any of his family's bodyguards could ever manage. Not even just literally, like from all the said assassination attempts and such, but also from making bad decisions in his life or not making them at all; Dave sets him on the right track, and John doesn't know exactly where it'll take him but it's better and more comforting than nothing. He forgets that he used to have issues with the fact that Dave's still in high school while he's been doing online college for about two years now.]

[He honestly never expected to fall into a relationship like this, but he has no complaints. John watches carefully as Dave fits the loop around his ankle, fascinated by the craftsmanship of the loop, and intensely endeared by the clear carving of Dave's name into it. He's a little slow sometimes, but this doesn't need to be spelled out for him; he belongs to Dave, and Dave is gifting him a mark of it, a collar of sorts but for his ankle instead of his neck (they all understand that his mother would do terrible things if she saw that out in the open), a physical representation of his submission to Dave's self.]
