THE MAFIA LIFE MEME

Sure, there are slick suits and Tommy guns, but the Mafia is about getting a certain level of respect and power. You might have to get your hands dirty sometimes, but you are near untouchable... as long as you don't get on the wrong side of someone higher up than you, that is.

The Family
1. Boss - The boss is the head of the family, sometimes called Don or Godfather. The entire family answers to you and you take a cut of every operation taken on by the family. Even though your position has the highest respect, it comes with its fair share of responsibilities and danger. You better watch your back and learn to deal with the stress.
2. Underboss - the underboss is usually appointed by the boss and is second in-command. They deal with the day-to-day responsibilties of the family. They are also the successor in case anything happens to the Don.
3. Consigliere - The consigliere is an advisor. The Boss's right-hand man. Mediator of disputes, representaitves, etc. They are the third ranking member. The Don appoints someone they trust deeply.
4. Capo - Capo, or captain, is in charge of a crew of soldiers who report directly to them. Each crew contains a number of soldiers and associates. The capo is appointed by the Don and reports to either him or the underboss. He is responsible for any assigned tasks, including murder.
5. Soldier - A soldier is a member of the family. He is a made man and cannot be touched without permission from a soldier's boss. They are the workers and usually handle committing crimes from assault, murder, intimidation, etc.
6. Associate - An associate is not a member of the Family officiall, but they do work with them. Their duties can run from carrying out similar tasks to a soldier to being nothing more than an errand boy. They can be lawyers or dirty cop, doctors, or anything else that might be useful to the family. They can be made official if recommended by a made man already in the family.
7. Rat - You're lower than dirt by Mafia standards. You've the code of silence, Omerta, and told on your family. If you aren't put in witness protection, you are an extremely likely target. Good luck watching your back and you better hope that deal you made was worth it!

Outsider
1. Lover - Either a spouse or a kept lover on the side. You are to be treated with respect and as long as you keep your mouth shut, you probably won't want for anything if you're involved with a higher up in the Family.
2. Cop - You finally got the dirt you wanted or maybe you're just watching certain members really close. Maybe you just want a nice little pay off to keep your mouth shut too.
3. Family - Family by blood. Father, mother, sister, brother, child, etc. You might be kept in the dark about the business or just turn a blind eye to it. Maybe you want to finally confront your family about their activities and get an honest answer out of them. Maybe you're offering a hide out or to stash goods, even if it's reluctantly.
4. Indebted - You made a deal with the mob and you are now indebted. Either you pay back your debt or you're in deep trouble. You might intimidated, roughed up, or murdered. They might be threatening your business or possibly even your loved ones.
5. Avenger - You knew someone who got in trouble with the mob or was wronged in some way by them and you're out for revenge now. It might be downright suicidal, but you're not going to be deterred.
6. Targeted - You either know something you shouldn't or did something else to get on the Family's bad side. Now you're being targeted for assassination. Maybe they've already found you or maybe you're getting as much stuff together and hitting the road as soon as you can.
7. Other - Maybe something was forgotten off the list. If you can think of something else you want to do or be, this is the option for you.

[Both of Rise's favorite boys are in her speakeasy tonight. Kanji, the bouncer and her best friend, appears in the back room to let her know the minute Onceler walks in with his siblings. She kisses her friend on the cheek in thanks and has him zip up the back of her fanciest dress, which he'd made for her back in her earliest days of singing here. He makes most of her dresses, got her her job here, helps her with her blossoming romance with the Godfather's son... Honestly, she'd be nowhere without him, and she'll never really accept “You made my marriage happen” as a reason not to worry about it. It was fun to matchmake between Kanji and Naoto.]

[She catches his eye and smiles while she sings, ignoring the hoots of the already-drunk regulars. She's not the only girl going on stage tonight, although she does fancy herself the prettiest. She feels bright and stunning under the eyes of all the men in the room as she steps off the stage, dress swirling around her ankles. Most of them know better than to approach her, though, because she's been associated with the mafia properly recently, and everyone knows she's somebody's girl. Whose is made apparent to this particular batch of people when she walks straight up to Onceler's table, smiling.]

Wasn't expecting you tonight, honey. You trying to surprise me?

[She leans in to kiss her newly acquired boyfriend on the cheek, arms tucked in front of her and accentuating her cleavage.]

[He feels like he's went up some ranks in his family. He's donning a new vest and coat, a compilation of bright dollar-greens and...more greens. With some red accent! It's pretty neat, he's rarely in stuff this fancy, but with all the dough he's got rolling in from his underground alcohol business, it's really no surprise that he fitted right into them. His business is fair and simple, and he only sells to people he knows will be responsible, or sell what they buy in bulk to others who won't go drunkenly blabbing or causing trouble. Well...for now. His mother is insistent on spreading his area; he's already successful, very much so! But, Oncey, honey, baby, favorite son, wouldn't it be better to get more?]

[But that's something he can think about later. Rise is stunning in her dress, and he grins like a lovestruck fool when she catches his eyes. He'd never think a girl like her would date him, but low and behold she's even been taken into his family as if she'd always been there. His mother actually likes her, which is extra great because otherwise...heeeeee didn't want to think about that.]

H-haha, yeah! I wanted to show the family what you do in person, that alright?

[He returns the cheek kiss, and the effort he's putting into trying not to stare at her cleavage is comical. He's also conveniently absent of the fact that because he's who he is, anything is alright here. That's something he's yet to get used to, but the idea is growing on him.]

[There's something incredibly charming about how obviously this man is sweet on her. It's equally apparent that he's still rather puzzled by what she sees in him, which is just one more little bit of adorable to the whole package. Of course she's into him, he's the only one in his whole business with real morals, he talks to her like a respectable lady instead of a singer in an illegal nightclub, he's got an energy about him that makes him fun to be around, and, most importantly of all, she feels safe and comfortable around him. So many guys who have liked her have been dangerous in and of themselves, never mind what was going on around them, but Onceler feels like a throwback to the boys that used to like her when she was a choir girl, before she hung around with shady crowds and relied on her friendship with Kanji to keep herself from getting into serious trouble.]

[In short: he's cute. And she giggles, because she's feeling that right now.]

It's fine, sweetheart. I'm always happy to see you.

[She's really not sure how to feel about his brothers, though, because they're leering at her, a far cry from her boyfriend's awkward unsureness on where to keep his eyes. She subtly shifts her position to keep them from seeing down her dress, because only one man at this table has a right to do that.]

So, these are your brothers?

[She moves closer to Onceler and gently sets a hand on his opposite shoulder, an invitation for him to put an arm around her waist. Somehow, it feels important that she at least gives him a hint that he should probably be possessive right now, in this room full of men giving her eyes.]
