Character Name: John Egbert
Character Series: Homestuck
Background: John @ MSPA Wiki
Point in Canon: Act 5 Act 2, Here, but right after Karkat ceases trolling him.
Personality:

John is a typical nerdy 13-year-old boy with a heaping streak of pranksterism. He's cool with just about everything, going with the flow and never faltering in youthful optimism. He gets irritated and frustrated, of course, what teenager doesn't? More prone to wanting to not be around his father than anything else, he takes to a solitary lifestyle, favoring chatting on Pesterchum, watching (bad) movies, and playing video games more than any other activity. This has also led him to be a generally nice guy out of a desire to not give his dad any reason to bother him more than he feels bothered by; by isolating himself from in-person interactions, he really has no reason to be anything but a good kid, and somehow he maintains good in-person, if not a little awkward, social skills. That said, he's remarkably innocent and naive, which is more obvious as he plays through Sburb and never falters in this child-like state of mind even as he faces hardships and grows as the game goes on. He's not as smart as his friends, or most of the characters in Homestuck, and he mainly progresses through the game with help from multiple people, rather than figuring out things for himself.

He does, for better or worse, see the good in all others. For some, it may take a few conversations, especially if he needs time to warm up to them (ie the trolls), but he eventually comes to trust them just as much as he trusts the next person; which is, to say, to a stupidly huge extent. His trustful nature had gotten him killed in one timeline, and thanks to time shenanigans he was able to choose between putting his trust in Dave or Terezi, the latter choice being what got him killed in the Doomed Timeline. Though this seems like an obvious choice--take the word of your time-traveling best friend or a troll you met over weirdo alien internet--John actually had some debate within himself before reconsidering and going with Dave's advice. Though this shows that John values broship highly, it also magnifies John's lack of appropriate judgement in many situations. It's not that he's obedient, exactly, it's just that he trusts everyone, including mysterious voices in his head, fairly equally and finds it difficult to decide for himself which path he wants to take. This is partially what makes him a natural-born leader/hero combo; he gives everyone the same opportunities, and no matter who they are he'll do everything it takes to give them a hand when they need it. He doesn't view himself as a leader, or really even a hero, and would much rather be people's friend over those positions any day.

John is fairly extroverted, and has every ability to talk anyone's ear off about whatever comes to mind. He tends to reenact scenes from his favorite movies at any given moment, or just break out into dance when he's excited. It doesn't matter if anyone's watching him or not, he just does whatever he has the idea to do. That said, he's a slave to his urges and rarely thinks before acting, and acts on them with great zeal. In general, he's the quiet kid who sits by himself at the lunch table that no one knows is absolutely silly until they talk to him. It's not that he's secretive about his weirdness, he's just more preoccupied with getting lost in an untranslated manga as he makes up the story since he can't read Japanese worth shit. His lack of caring enough to reason things carries on into how he thinks about things in general, choosing to do now and reflect later. When he gets down to alchemizing, he doesn't seem to put too much thought into putting Thing 1 and Thing 2 together farther than that it might do something cool, and usually his instinct ends up either producing something incredibly useful or...not. His innovative skills come quite naturally to him, and it helps him out a lot throughout the series.
